McWilliams House Visit with Museum Tour
A hands-on experience at the Saratoga History Museum and the McWilliams House with life in early Saratoga.
This tour includes an early school experience along with various "daily life" hands-on stations in the McWilliams House to explore family life in Saratoga in the late-1800's.
» Duration: approximately 2 hours, including a time to explore toys and games of this period.
» Cost: Program and tour of McWilliams House is $50/class up to 20 students, plus $2.50 per student over 20 students.
- Classroom (or group) Visits by Docents (two options):
Saratoga Trunk: Artifacts from the museum collection are brought to the classroom (or group meeting) along with stories about how they were used by the McWilliams Family in early Saratoga.
» Duration: approximately 45 minutes
» Cost: $50
Postcard Stories: This is a language arts/social studies lesson with old postcards from the museum collection.
Using museum gloves when handling, students analyze a vintage postcard for location, date and differences from modern cards.
They then create a postcard about their own area, which reflects local places and things they want to share with visitors. What is very special about where you live? What picture might you include on your postcard? What will you say about it?
» Duration: 45 minutes
» Cost: $50
